The excess is the amount of each claim that you will have to pay. The standard policy excess for Post Insurance Pet Plan is €100. If your pet is older than 7 years (or 9 years for a cat) you will be asked to contribute an additional 15%.

You can choose to spread the cost of your payments monthly by

  • Monthly Direct Debit Payments
  • Debit/Credit Card

You can start to insure your pet from 8 weeks old until 8 years old for all cats and most dog breeds. There are some larger dog breeds that we are only able to offer a new policy until they are 5 years old.

Yes, but only if you’ve already taken out one of our Standard or Premier continuous cover policies before your pet reaches its 8th birthday. In this case you may be offered renewal terms by our insurers on the first renewal after your pets 8th birthday.

This policy provides cover for a period of 12 months only. Any conditions that occur in this policy year will only be covered until the end of the policy period stated on the schedule of insurance.

Continuous cover means the policy is offered each year for as long as the insurer offers renewal.

You may apply for pet insurance at any cover level but pre-existing conditions will not be covered.

  • Your injury cover will begin from the first start date of your policy.
  • Illness cover will begin 14 days after the first start date of your policy.

Your pet will be covered for dental treatment on our Standard and Premier policies (excluding prophylactic treatment i.e. de-scale and polish) providing that your pet has received a health check by your vet within the last 12 months and that any recommended treatment has been carried out within 6 months of the recommendation or earlier if specified.

There are a number of items that the policy does not cover; these include preventative health care treatments such as vaccinations, flea and worming treatment. Please see our policy wordings for a full list of exclusions.

Our policy does not cover any illness defects or abnormalities that it was born with or passed on by its parents.

The policy does not cover any prosthesis, including any veterinary treatment needed to fit the prosthesis.
